چکیده

Devising an optimal strategy for navigation in a partially observable environment is one of the key objectives in AI. One of the problem in this context is the Canadian Traveler Problem (CTP). CTP is a navigation problem where an agent is tasked to travel from source to target in a partially observable weighted graph, whose edge might be blocked with a certain probability and observing such blockage occurs only when reaching upon one of the edges end points. The goal is to find a strategy that minimizes the expected travel cost. The problem is known to be P# hard. In this work we study the CTP theoretically and empirically. First, we study the Dep-CTP, a CTP variant we introduce which assumes dependencies between the edges status. We show that Dep-CTP is intractable, and further we analyze two of its sub-classes on disjoint paths graph. Second, we develop a general algorithm that optimally solve the CTP called General Propagating AO* (Gen-PAO). Gen-PAO is capable of solving two other types of CTP called Sensing-CTP and Expensive-Edges CTP. Since the CTP is intractable, Gen-PAO use some pruning methods to reduce the space search for the optimal solution. We also define some variants of Gen-PAO, compare their performance and show some benefits of Gen-PAO over existing work.

Canadian Traveler Problem with Remote Sensing

The Canadian Traveler Problem (CTP) is a navigation problem where a graph is initially known, but some edges may be blocked with a known probability. The task is to minimize travel effort of reaching the goal. We generalize CTP to allow for remote sensing actions, now requiring minimization of the sum of the travel cost and the remote sensing cost. Finding optimal policies for both versions is ...

Theoretical, numerical, and experimental analyses of free vibrations of glass fiber reinforced polymer plates with central cutouts and free boundaries

This study explored the free vibration problem in relation to glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) plates with central cutouts and free boundaries using theoretical, experimental, and numerical methods. The theoretical formulations were derived from the classical lamination plate theory. The rectangular cutout was mathematically modeled into the stiffness matrix of the plate by multiplying Hea...

Airport Security Versus Patient Security: The “Sickurity” Problem

The massive restrain security measurements at the airports very much impress the health status of the healthy and sick passengers alike. The security check is undisputedly a harassment – the confiscation of fluids, the limited movement on the airplane results in a stressful situation and put a harmful effect on healthy traveler and an even more harmful one on the sick. This kind of problem coul...

An Experimental and Theoretical Study of Freezing of Pure Aluminum

In this work, Boltzmann transform has been used to analyze the problem of freezing of pure Aluminum in semi-infinite domain. The uniqueness of solution (solidification front location) has been proved using the characteristics of the functions appeared in solution. The effect of density change on temperature distribution and errors resulting from ignoring this change have been investigated. The ...

Shortest Path under Uncertainty: Exploration versus Exploitation

In the Canadian Traveler Problem (CTP), a traveler seeks a shortest path to a destination through a road network, but unknown to the traveler, some roads may be blocked. This paper studies the Bayesian CTP (BCTP), in which road states are correlated with known prior probabilities and the traveler can infer the states of an unseen road from past observations of other correlated roads. As general...
